SPECIAL NEWS:
HairKido
the martial art of haircutting
It will change the way you think and cut hair…forever!
It focuses on you and your mind. It’s a philosophy. It’s a mindset.
Everything you do, will become, easier, with more comprehension.
It’s a “Brain Based” system of teaching and learning.
What is The HairKido System?
You’ve probably attended many cutting classes in your career, and no doubt you are planning to take many more. Often, we spend hundreds and thousands of dollars each year, and at best we achieve a short-term goal. To be the best, one must first develop the basic tools, techniques and disciplines in the craft of haircutting, learning and teaching.
The HairKido System incorporates the body and the mind, using movements based on an ancient martial art called Aikido (Pronounced: eye~kee~doh, and meaning ~ harmony, spirit, mind & universal energy / the way)
This is a completely new approach to learning and teaching haircutting, featuring precision techniques that have been used and taught for decades by most of the top haircutters of the world. It’s the approach that is completely different, as it focuses on a mindset and not just a haircut. The HairKido System is a series of haircutting exercises that teach and discipline your body and your mind. It puts you in control. By learning these disciplines & techniques it will give you the power, knowledge and tools to cut any style you desire. It will instantly boost confidence and self esteem. It’s a different way of learning and teaching as it incorporates “Brain Based Learning” which is fun and enjoyable. It is truly the “Martial Art of Haircutting”.
With this system, you can be a novice or veteran in the craft, no matter what your level of experience is, it will sharpen your skills and raise your level of competence and confidence.
The HairKido System, will become your haircutting foundation and language that will stay with you for a lifetime.
It is the perfect system to enlighten you into the foundation of advanced haircutting. It’s the tool that every salon owner and educator can confidently teach his or her staff to use. It’s a system and a language on how to best teach and learn. The system is taught completely on mannequins for consistency, focus and concentration.
What does the word “Aikido” mean? (Pronounced “eye~kee~doh”)
The word 'Aikido' in Japanese is made up of three characters or kanji.
The first and most important is 'Ai' which means to meet, to come together, 'to harmonize'.
The second kanji is ki, which means literally steam or vapor, but has come to mean in modern Japanese, the mind, the soul, the spirit, and the energy. In the larger context 'ki' means 'spirit or force of the Universe', and not just the spirit of mere human beings.
The third and last character is 'do' which means 'the way', as in Ken-Do or Ju-Do, to signify that the study of Aikido does not involve only techniques based purely in self-defense, but includes positive character building ideals which people can incorporate into their daily lives.
Thus, Aikido means 'the Way of Harmonizing the Body and Universal Spirit'.
The HairKido System incorporates the disciplines and mind set of Aikido the martial art while teaching a simple and effective way of hair cutting and designing hair through the wonderful world of art and beauty.
HairKido is the martial art of hair design
The most outstanding feature of physical training is the repetitious practice of various techniques until rational and unforced movements flow naturally from within the body
With each student training and progressing at his or her own pace, all can find harmony within their own personal development.
Circular, flowing movements originating from a relaxed body and a fully centered mind are the HairKido ideals.
Regular practice brings a feeling of well being and self confidence that carries over into every aspect of daily life.
When winning or losing is of no consequence, trainees are free to dedicate their efforts to mutual goals.
FAQ’s
Q: Is this a basic class for beginners?
A: While HairKido certainly enforces the basic techniques of hair cutting, it also takes each individual to another level of expertise. We like to refer to it as the foundation of an advanced system of haircutting
Q: I know how to cut hair, why should I take this class and learn the basics again?
A: HairKido is for all levels and is a new way of learning but more importantly, it’s a new way of teaching. For those of you who are experienced cutters, you will learn a new method to communicate to your staff/students and have a system and language of teaching.
Q: I have never been taught the basic foundational cutting techniques; will those who are more experienced leave me behind in the class?
A: The great thing about this system is that no one is ever left behind. Everyone works together on the same thing at the same time, even the instructor...it’s called “see/do”
Q: Will I learn some new styles and techniques at the class.
A: Everything is relative to what you’ve learned already. However, even if you use the same techniques as you’ve done in the past and apply the HairKido system, it will develop into a new fresh style.
Q: Why do I need 4 mannequins?
A: Each exercise is done on one side of a fresh mannequin so that you can use it as your example when learning or teaching. The other side is for you to practice on.
Q: What if I don’t have long 7”-7 ½” shears? Will I still be able to take the class?
A: Yes, you can still take the class, however, the 5’-5 ½” shears are for your general cutting exercises. The 7”-7 ½” shears are for the texturizing exercises. You will not be able to execute these texturizing techniques with a small set of shears.
Q: Why do I need a tripod stand? Can’t I just use a plastic swivel holder that attaches to the dressing station?
A: The tripod is very important, as you will need to be moving around the mannequin 360°. As a teacher, you should always show your students that you use the best tools and expect them to do the same.
Q: How will I remember these learning and teaching techniques when I return home?
A: Each person will receive a “Leaders Guide Manual” to help them remember and practice.
Q: Can I just attend just one day only?
A: Only if the class is specially designed for a one day experience only, otherwise you will be expected to be in attendance for the full session planned. The philosophy, exercises and mindset are taught each day. Without all these tools, you may not totally understand the concept & experience of HairKido.
Q: Can I teach this class to new students and staff in a one day class?
A: Yes, for those who attend the full three day experience, you will see and learn how to teach a one day condensed class.
What is meant by “Brain Based”?
Definition
Brain-based learning is a comprehensive approach to instruction using current research from neuroscience. Brain-based education emphasizes how the brain learns naturally and is based on what we currently know about the actual structure and function of the human brain at varying developmental stages. Using the latest neural research, educational techniques that are brain friendly provide a biologically driven framework for creating effective instruction. This theory also helps explain recurring learning behaviors, and is a meta-concept that includes an eclectic mix of techniques. Currently, related techniques stress allowing teachers to connect learning to students’ real life and emotional experiences, as well as their personal histories and experiences. This form of learning also encompasses such newer educational concepts as:
Mastery learning
Learning styles
Multiple intelligences
Cooperative learning
Practical simulations
Experiential learning
Problem-based learning
Movement education
We learn....
10% of what we read.
20% of what we hear.
30% of what we see.
50% of what we both see and hear.
70% of what is discussed with others
80% of what we experience
95% of what we teach
William Glasser
Core principles directing brain-based education are:
The brain is a parallel processor. It can perform several activities at once.
The brain perceives wholes and parts simultaneously.
Information is stored in multiple areas of the brain, and can be retrieved through multiple memory and neural pathways.
Learning engages the whole body. All learning is mind-body: movement, foods, attention cycles, and chemicals modulate learning.
Humans’ search for meaning is innate.
The search for meaning comes through patterning.
Emotions are critical to patterning, and drive our attention, meaning and memory.
Meaning is more important than just information.
Learning involves focused attention and peripheral perception.
We have two types of memory: spatial and rote.
We understand best when facts are embedded in natural spatial memory.
The brain is social. It develops better in concert with other brains.
Complex learning is enhanced by challenge and inhibited by stress.
Every brain in uniquely organized.
Learning is developmental.>
